On April 15, 2015 Tinder made first major update since its initial launch in 2012.  Sean Rad, the president and cofounder of Tinder, announced that users of the popular dating app will now be allowed to link their Instagram accounts directly to their Tinder page. Rad hopes the new features will help users find matches— and strike up conversations with — potential matches (and maybe even fall in love). Before the updates, Tinder users could only share photos or pull photos from their Facebook accounts. With this new updates means you can finally link your Instagram account to your Tinder profile too.

Tinder is also expanding profiles' interests section so users can see all of a match's interests, rather than just the ones you share with someone. The new profiles will appear for Tinder's free and paid users, though the app may expand its premium features in the future.

“Tinder profiles just got a lot more colorful with Instagram integration. Setup is easy: just go to your profile, select ‘edit’ and choose ‘Connect Instagram.’ Confirm your Instagram username and password, and you’re set - your Tinder profile will automatically start displaying your recent Instagram photos. Now there’s no need to put your Instagram handle in your profile description to tell your story (we got sick of having to do that, too). And in case you were wondering, Tinder won’t post anything to Instagram on your behalf or alter your existing Instagram privacy settings.
If users choose to link accounts, their 34 most recent Instagram photos will appear directly on their Tinder profile, along with a link to redirect a potential suitor to their main Instagram page.

Tinder now shows you the mutual friends and friends of friends you have in common with your potential matches, adding more context and an extra degree of connection to every swipe. For those people concerning about privacy needn’t worry. Linking to Tinder Account won’t affect privacy settings. The 34 recent photos will display on Tinder, but non-followers will not be able to access your actual Instagram page. There is also an option to display your photos within your Tinder profile without changing your Instagram privacy settings.

You’ll be able to see more information about people you know, add more information on your own profile (specifically, in the “interests” area) and measure the “degrees of separation” between you and another user’s mutual contacts.

To connect your Instagram account to your Tinder profile, tap the menu icon in the top left hand corner on the main screen, hit ‘View Profile,’ tap ‘edit,’ scroll and select ‘Connect Instagram.’ Please note that your Instagram photos can not be used as profile pictures. Profile pictures can only be uploaded from Facebook.

Note: If your Instagram account is set to private (i.e, only your friends can see your photos), and if you choose to connect your Instagram to your Tinder account, Tinder users will be able to see your most recent Instagram photos. This won't affect your privacy settings on Instagram.

Can I use my Instagram photos as profile pics?

Your Instagram photos can not be used as profile pictures on Tinder. Profile pictures can only be uploaded from Facebook.
