Tinder Smart Profiles - How to Edit Tinder Smart Profile

Share:
In just three years, more than 10 billion matches have been made around the world on Tinder. These matches have led to friends, dates, relationships, and everything in between.

Tinder believe that the people we meet have the power to change our lives. That’s why they just rolled out some big improvements to Tinder that empower users to make even more meaningful connections.
Tinder released a new update with new Smart Profile features and a new algorithm that are sure to change online dating game.

Tinder Smart Profile

New Smart Profiles will now dynamically highlight the information most relevant to you about your potential match, which will be displayed on the front of their profile under their name - such as whether you attended the same school or have a friend in common.

Users now have the option of including their job and education information, two things users were including anyway, says CEO Sean Rad. “From the data that Tinder looks at when you’re making a decision on whether or not to connect with someone, a high percent comes down to a very small set of factors—two of which are jobs and education. Users have put that information on their own in their bios, so we’ve taken the next step and enabled people to display it.”

Job and Education

Now you’ll know whether you’re looking at the profile of a fellow alum from your university or someone in an interesting industry. This allows users to make more informed choices when deciding to swipe left, right, or even up – while also providing great conversation starters.
Adding job and education to your profile is super quick: they can be selected when you update or edit your Tinder profile. Like other Tinder profile information, job and education information comes from Facebook. Of course, we know that not everyone will want to share the same information about themselves, so you’ll have a few options when selecting how much to share. You can also choose to share none at all, though we’ve found that sharing leads to more matches!

Tinder New Messaging Interface

A new messaging format is also part of the new profiles—the inbox will split messages between new matches you haven’t contact and those you’ve been talking to. It’s a whole new match screen - matches with whom you haven’t started chatting are now separated and listed above the matches you’ve already messaged.

Tinder Better Recommendations

Tinder made some big changes under the hood to improve the way that Tinder selects the profiles that are shown to you. While these algorithm improvements are all behind the scenes, you’ll notice the difference; these updates have led to a significant increase in matches.

More insight into potential matches, a newly designed match screen and better profile recommendations are now available. Just open Tinder now to check it out (or update the app if you haven’t already). We’re sure these updates will make swiping even better and will lead to more meaningful matches.

Driving all of this, though, is Tinder’s enhanced algorithm, which isn’t just taking into account the new job and education signals. “There are a broader range of inputs [in addition to jobs and education] we’re considering,” says Rad, though he declined to go into more detail here. “We’re gotten a lot better through machine learning at determining the weight of those data points and the level of importance in determining who’s relevant to you.”

The update is and isn’t a departure for Tinder. No matter what it’s done, Tinder has had trouble shaking its rep for facilitating hookups. But with each update, Tinder looks a little less like the trigger-happy swiping machine that earned it that reputation and more like a traditional dating site for the mobile generation.

How to edit Tinder job and school info?

You can edit your profile to adjust what you share on Tinder. First, make sure your school / job info is up to date on Facebook.

To edit your school and work information, tap the Menu icon on the main screen, select View Profile, hit Edit, and scroll down to the School / Current Work headings. If you want to hide your school and/or work information, just select the option to display None.

Note: if you have recently updated your school / work information on Facebook, the changes may take up to a few days to reflect on Tinder.
